CPGear.com at the Olympics?

When people from around the World descend on Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics, CPGear will be active helping the men and women keeping the event safe.

"I would bet that if you were to interview a group of five to 10 soldiers at the Olympics, the name CPGear or Wheelers would be commonly associated as THE place in Canada to get kit from, and that at least one or two of them would have placed an order with us within the last year, and there's a good chance that they'd be wearing something on their vest, pack or uniform which was provided by us," says Matt Fisher, Product Development Specialist with CPGear.

The nature of security duty at an Olympic games means security personnel will have to be ready for anything, the former soldier says.

"Given that the eye of the world will be focused on Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Games, and the past history of terrorist incidents with the Olympics such as the 1972 Munich massacre and hostage taking and the 2006 Atlanta bombing, providing a secure environment for the games to take place in is an essential mission for the Canadian Forces, local and federal law enforcement, as well as private security. Canadian Forces members conducting Olympic security will be subject to the elements of nature for extended periods of time in order to provide a vigilant watch," says Fisher.  "Just because it's raining or snowing doesn't mean you can come inside to warm up."

With an expected figure of more than one million athletes and guests visiting Vancouver and surrounding area, the 2010 Olympic Winter Games is the largest security operation Canadian Forces and security personnel has been tasked with. CPGear seeks to respond to the requirements of the job of the men and women handling security by providing a variety of essential gear.

"Given the  importance of presenting a professional uniform appearance, CPGear's CADPAT products for the Tac-Vest such as the Berry Pouch and its larger cousin, the Super Berry Pouch, are great examples of the sort of gear that CF members are picking up on their own, not just for Olympic security duty, but for use year round," says Fisher. "Most of the CF members deployed will be living in relatively austere conditions, often sleeping on military cots, and having very limited personal space.  As such, the ability to keep ones clothing and kit organized in a neat manner is very important.  Products such as our cot organizer and nylon and mesh organizer pouches are great in this regard."

CPGear is also always prepared for any task clients need gear for.

"Like any mission that the Canadian Forces are tasked with, CPGear is ready to stand by to assist with providing the right gear at the right time.  Whether it be manning a traffic control point at a parking lot, or conducting a security patrol on the side of Blackcomb, our gear is ready for what you need it to do," Fisher says.
